Instead of a liner, by thermal spraying steel wire or powder into the cylinder bore, we achieve durability, reduced number of parts, and weight reduction!

The German company Strum's cylinder bore thermal spraying device allows for the selection of either wire or powder as the thermal spray material. The specifications of the equipment also change depending on the thermal spray material used. A cylinder inspector made by STURM is installed in the machine, which records the surface roughness, coating defects, and surface characteristics of the cylinder before and after spraying. There is also an inline measurement device (independent or included with the wire thermal spraying process). The diagram illustrates the principle of a plasma spray gun. As shown in the diagram, when a voltage is applied between the cathode and anode, a direct current arc is generated. The working gas (such as argon) supplied from the rear becomes ionized, producing plasma. ● What is thermal spraying? Thermal spraying has many advantages compared to other surface modification methods (such as surface hardening, carburizing, nitriding, ion implantation, plating, vapor deposition, and build-up welding). ● What is gas thermal spraying? A general term for thermal spraying conducted using a combustion flame of oxygen and combustible gas. ● What is flame spraying? A process that uses a combustion flame of oxygen and combustible gas to heat and melt linear, powder, or rod-shaped thermal spraying materials, which are then sprayed onto a substrate to form a coating.
